Finding community in the wedding industry
Where there is community there is growth
I have been so blessed over the past few years to meet so many great creatives in the Dallas, Austin and San Antonio wedding industry. As a wedding vendor and entrepreneur we are constantly emailing, taking calls, marketing, scheduling, editing, styling, photographing, meeting with clients along with managing our daily lives. Many of us are moms, dads and others hold full time jobs while still maintaining a successful career in the wedding industry.
I am always impressed with vendors I've worked with ability to be personable, passionate and KIND. As a photographer we are running around with the bride and their party most of the day. I rarely get time to have a conversation with the florist, rental company, catering, etc. I want them to be able to tell me what of their part would they like to see captured. I want them to feel like they can give me their business cards so when I send out galleries they can take all their images and use for portfolio use. After all we are in this together. It is not a competition. Each of us have a love for the industry, a love for what we do and the best thing we can do for each other is support one another. I want to know vendors on a first name basis, meet for coffee to talk about our daily lives and funny wedding stories. When I meet wonderful vendors I remember them and I am constantly trying to send business their way. Which is why I truly believe that where this a community there is growth and the growth will show in your portfolio and your career. My dad says "what goes around comes around" and I believe if you are good to people and you share the love of what you do with others you will get recognized and good things will happen to you and those around you.
I've wanted to get others in the Dallas wedding industry together for some time now but couldn't think of a good way to make it happen. I had attended The Big Fake wedding in 2016... or was it 2015? The years run together now... But I met so many awesome vendors that I am still in contact with to this day with, like Go Man Productions, we will be shooting a wedding this month actually because I told my bride how AMAZING they are! I am also in contact with florists, planners, etc. I get excited when I show up to an event and my vendor family is there too! It's great to see a familiar place when you're surrounded by strangers who are relying on you so greatly. The goal of getting together every now and then and just being creative not only allows us to see each other longer than a brief second on a wedding day but lets us really get to know one another. Many of us know a good heart when we meet one and I love more than anything to be able to guide my clients to others who are still grounded with good heads on their shoulders. Networking is so important for the growth of any business, and knowing you can relate to those who work around you, and enjoy time together only makes what you do more fun.
Any who... I think I am rambling now, but I hope to keep having events like this big, small and everything in between to just have fun and make friendships.
With much love,
Veronica a.k.a. Ronni
